Currency

Currency in the Principality of Kiev has remained much as it was under the rule of the Golden Horde. Coins minted around Kiev have the same denominations and overall design, but replace the Tatar symbols with the letter K (for Kiev) and a key (representing the god Abadar).

Coins are divided into the copper puls (equiv. 1sp), silver dirhams (equiv. 1gp) and golden dinars (equiv. 1pp). Basic wages for a labourer are around one or two dirhams per day.

Benevolent greeting and piety maxims are also often featured on silver coins reading: ‘Life is short, use it for godly deeds’, ‘Be happy’, ‘Temperance substitutes for wealth’, and so on.
